She was the only Black contestant in the Miss America pageant in 1990, and she won! Marjorie Vincent made history by becoming the first Miss America with Haitian heritage. It was also the first time that two Black queens consecutively held the prestigious title. Vincent wowed the judges with her flawless performance of Chopin’s “Fantaisie‑Impromptu”.
During her year as Miss America, Marjorie raised thousands of
dollars for domestic violence programs across the United States.
After
serving as Miss America, Vincent spent several years as a broadcast journalist;
she later earned a law degree, and served as an attorney in Daytona Beach, Florida.
She is currently employed as an assistant district attorney in Alabama.
